JNCIA Exam Cram Notes: Active Vs. Candidate Configuration
« on: February 13, 2023, 02:33:53 AM »
In Juniper Networks, the "Active Configuration" is the currently running configuration on a device. It represents the current state of the device and the configuration that is being used to forward traffic.

The "Candidate Configuration" is a proposed configuration that is being prepared but has not yet been activated or committed to the device. When you make changes to the configuration in Juniper Networks, you are actually modifying the Candidate Configuration. The changes don't take effect until you commit the Candidate Configuration, at which point it becomes the Active Configuration.

The separation of the Active and Candidate Configuration allows you to make changes to the configuration without affecting the current state of the device. You can make changes to the Candidate Configuration, validate them, and then commit the changes to activate them. If the changes result in a failure, you can roll back to the previous Active Configuration, preserving the stability of the network.
